GAWS is a not-for-profit animal welfare organisation providing best practice care, community education and rehoming programs.
Established in 1956, our service offerings include an animal shelter and a veterinary clinic. We also deliver the Animal Management Services for stray and lost animals brought to our facility by council officers and members of the public for the City of Greater Geelong, Golden Plains Shire, Surf Coast Shire and Borough of Queenscliffe. We care for these animals until they can be reunited with their owners or rehomed in new forever homes.
Our animal shelter receives no government funding and relies on the generous support of the community to deliver this vital work. We thank all those who enable our work and help us give all animals a second chance ‘because every life is precious.’

CORPORATE SUPPORTERS…help give a second chance
Our shelter relies 100% on corporate and community support. Without you our shelter would be unable to operate.
We are proud to be in partnership with many businesses throughout the region who support the shelter through our corporate programs.
In kind donations are essential for the animals at the unfunded shelter.
Here is a list of frequently used items we love.
New or in good condition towels and blankets.
Items that can be used as enrichment items for the shelter animals – kongs, scratching posts, cat & dog beds, treats and dog coats.
Dog and cat food. Please consider brands thats provide meat as its first ingredient, any low quality food may upset tummies.
New or in good condition leashes, collars and harnesses.
Animal beds in good condition.
Please note we do not accept the following items at the shelter:
Doonas or quilts
Pillows or pillow cases
Recycled meat trays
If you would like to donate, there is a drop off area in reception at GAWS.
Some animals need a little extra care before they can be adopted. Fostering allows GAWS to care for more animals until they can be re-homed. The fostering duration can vary and it is best to discuss with the foster coordinator what type of animal would suit your lifestyle.
Foster carers are supported by our dedicated Foster Coordinator and provided with relevant training.
